Subtle Turning

Poor Daniel of Volterra
Known now forever
As “the trouserer”

Paid to put pantaloons
On the Sistine Chapel nudes
How’s that for a counter-

Reformation? Poor Daniel
Of Volterra, “Thus ever
To nudity,” he said

And the world do turn
Ever, Daniel of Volterra
With subtle changes

Time to time

Perhaps after that title was bestowed, old Daniel would have been wise to change careers and make an altogether different name for himself. At the very least, he might have painted soulful sonnnets or sassy crimson hearts on the underbritches! (Would that have made him The Hearty Trouserer? or perhaps Passionate Pantalooner?
